   Iguazú National Park

 

The Iguazú Nationa Park has different species of animals and plants which try to be preserved in their natural habitat. Among the mammals there appear: the "Jaguareté", the "Gato onza" (a kind of cat), the puma, the monkeys, and the "mono aullador or caraya" (howler and monkeys or caraya.) The coaties, the "aguará- pope" ( a specie of bear), the "yurumí" (an ant bear) are also found there.

Among the reptiles there appear: the alligator, the alligators of the specie Tupinambis, the roguer and the different species of snakes.

The birds that belong to the forest of the Iguazú National Park are the following: the "magpie"( a kind of bird), the "huí-parrot" (a specie of parrot), the "Martín Pescador" (a kind of bird), the toucans, the thrushes, the woodpeckers, the herons, the teros, the swallows and the "yacutinga" (a kind of bird).

Among the batrachians there appear: the toad or curucú, which makes a sound that seems as it pronunced the word ox.

It is incredible all the insects that appear in this place, especially butterflies of beautiful colors, "mbariguí" ( a specie of insect), "ura" (botfly), mosquitoes and other species.

The fishing is very exciting there, the most famous species are the following: the "dorado" (swordfish), "manguruyú" (a river fish), "bagre" ( a kind of catfish), "chucho de río, morena, pacú" (kinds of fish), "salmón" (salmon), "corvina"(corvine), and other species such as "armado, mandové, boga, raya and pirá-yaguá".

The park has trees of 15 to 4 metres such as: "Anchico, Lapacho" (american timber trees), "Palo Rosa" (rose timber), "Guatambú amarillo y Blanco", "Seibo" (national tree), "Timbo", "Laurel" (laurel), Maté, "Fumo Bravo, Ambay, Turumá", "Cedro" (cedar), "Pacuapi", "Palmito" (palmeto), "Aguay" (star apple), "Azota, Caballo, Kokú", "Mandioca brava" (bitter cassava), etc. Including "Orquideas" (orchidaceous), "Bambuseas" (bambuseas), "Helechos" (ferns), "lianas", "Enredaderas" (climbing plants), "Epíferas" (epipheras), "Hemiparásitas" (hemiparasites), "naranjo" (orange tree), "Lapacho amarillo y negro", and "Palo Borracho" are also found there.

Cataratas del Iguazú (Iguazú Falls): There is nothing to be compared with them because they are incredible. The "UNESCO" (United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural organization), declared them national heritage of the humanity. The cascades have 250 spectacular falls that weigh 70 metres and they are connected to the Iguazú river which originates 1300 metres above the sea level and flows into the Paraná river only to 90 metres.

Iguazú Falls

There are two paths which allow tourists to know the falls of the park in a number of different ways. The excursion begins on the lower path to appreciate the falls covered up in the mist and the clamor of the water that falls down. From the superior path it can be observed a panoramic view. The paths which were repaired, are placed 50 centimetres from the earth to avoid that the manhood modifies the flora and fauna of this place. The "Garganta del Diablo" is incredible, the excursion begins from the "Puerto Canoas" (Canoas Port) by boat up to the remains of the footbridge, and from this place there is an access to the overlooking. From the side of Argentina, the "Garganta" can be seen 50 metres away, and from the side of Brazil it can be seen 50 metres away. An admission ticket is paid to do these activities.

Options the park provides:

When there is fullmoon, the park caretaker arranges night walks which permit to the tourist discover the water and forest sounds.

Expediciones Explorador (Explorer expeditions): Tourists can observe the forest secrets, the footsteps of the animals, and they can also discover the toucans by their melodies and the characteristic sound of the monkeys. They can admire the orchidaceous from the top of the trees. This excursion is made with an uncovered vehicle especially adjusted for this venture. Tourists can take the best pictures of the flora and fauna through 30 kilometres of forest, at the "Parque Nacional Iguazú" (Iguazú Park). Daily excursions from the "Viejo Hotel Cataratas" are offered to the tourist. Information can be given to the tourists at the "Centro de Visitantes" (Visitors Centre) at the Iguazú Park.

People who work at Iguazú Jungle Explorer organize different excursions or activities:

Nautic Venture: Tourists can sail over the falls by boat in a speedy way. The venture begins when tourists put their life-savings on and it will be even better when they discover the falls with their ditches.

San Martín Island: Tourists feel the waterfalls are inside themselves. The island with its incredible view, the "Ventana" and the "Balcon del Salto San Martín" show something different. Sailings by boat and beaches of white sand by the water falls will make tourists feel they have known the paradise.

Nautic Safari: From "Puerto Canoas" (Canoas Port) tourists can sail into the Iguazú delta through the calm water up to the "Puerto Tres Marías" (Tres Marías Port). There are 4 kilometres of distance which last 20 minutes. Tourists will be led to the island in a natural way and they will be part of an incredible experience. There are sailings every five minutes aproximately.

Macuco safari 4 x 4 truck: The excursion lasts two hours and leads the tourists to the forests with well-equipped vehicles. There are walks to observe the flora and fauna which is described by bilingual guides. The visit to the "Salto Arrechea" (Arrechea fall) which has its own lake and the sailing through Iguazú river are also exciting. Food and drinks of Misiones are provided there. It is recommended to wear loose clothes, trainers, etc.

Jungle Bikes: The Iguazú Park can be crossed by bicycle.

The Big Venture: This excursion combines the water and the forest, entering into the "Garganta del Diablo" with a boat led by experts of the place. Tourists can observe the falls and then (as conquerors did) go downstrem through the Iguazú river to a distance of 9 kilometres of sailing up to "Puerto Macuco" (Macuco Port). After the tourist live the boat, the excursion of 12 kilometres begins through the increduble Misiones forest which form part of the National park. This excursion is made with a 4 x 4 truck especially designed by this kind of roads. After an hour of unforgettable sensations, the big venture finishes at the "Viejo Hotel" where the trip began.

Boats to the "Garganta": Tourists sail through the calm water of the Iguazú river where they can observe the views of the "Garganta del Diablo". From the Canoas port they can get the boats.
